Who We Are

Charlotte Chapter is a local HLAA chapter serving Mecklenburg County, but also Cabarrus, Union, Gaston, Anson, Richmond, Montgomery, Stanly, Rowan, Catawba, Lincoln, Cleveland, York (SC), Chester (SC) and Lancaster (SC) ... and beyond.  We are volunteers and members interested in improving our lives and the lives of everyone with hearing loss.  Our program meetings are now both in-person and virtual, via Zoom, and anyone is welcome to become a member.  There are no dues and no requirement to attend meetings.  To become a member, just CLICK HERE to added to the membership email list.  Then you’ll receive our occasional newsletters plus invitations to participate in meetings or events.  You are welcome to join our Charlotte Chapter Facebook Group, too.  There, you’ll be able to keep up with (and contribute to, if you wish) timely and interesting information about hearing loss.

What We Do

The mission of HLAA is to open the world of communication to people with hearing loss by providing information, education, support, and advocacy.  Our chapter's newsletters provide useful information about hearing loss.  Our meetings and events offer opportunities to meet others and learn about “being good at hearing loss.”  Charlotte chapter participates in health fairs and supports other community events and nonprofits that benefit people with hearing loss.  We also provide post-secondary scholarships for area students with hearing loss.  We help organize and participate in the NC Walk4Hearing, an annual awareness and fundraising event, that brings together families and friends (and pets!) to advocate for people with hearing loss.

What You Can Do

Program Meetings/Events

HLAA Charlotte Chapter holds program meetings and social events several times a year.   Program meetings can be attended in-person or remotely via Zoom.

An audioloop is provided at program meetings so people with telecoil equipped hearing aids or cochlear implants can hear the audio as well as possible.  Telecoil compatible receivers/headphones are available for those without telecoil equipped hearing devices.  Captions of everything said at program meetings are displayed for all attendees.
