We meet several times a year for program meetings about hearing loss. We also meet for social events including breakfasts at local restaurants, and dinner out or covered dish suppers in the Summer and during the Winter.

Sorry, the March meeting was postponed due to the COVID-19 situation. Announcement and details of future meetings will be provided in a later newsletter.

You can read previous newsletters at the right and get a good idea of the kinds of meetings and events we have. You're invited to join us. Our meetings are free and open to anyone interested in hearing loss. We have no dues, so just come if you can.

If you would like to be notified by email of upcoming events, please email Steve Barber.

Scholarship Announcement

The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) Wake Chapter has established a $500 scholarship to be awarded to a Wake County Public School System senior with a hearing loss who is pursuing a degree at an accredited university, college or community college.

Applicants must have a moderate hearing loss or more and wear a hearing aid(s) and/or cochlear implant(s). Financial need is not a consideration. The scholarship is a one-time award.

If you know of a qualified applicant, please refer them to this HLAA Wake Chapter Web Site at www.nchearingloss.org/wake.htm or to these two forms:

You may be able to fill-in and send the forms electronically, or you can print, fill-in and send them to Steve Latus.

The submission deadline for the application form and reference letters is April 1. We will notify the recipient in May and share the news on www.nchearingloss.org/wake.htm.

Example Meeting

Here's a photo of an earlier meeting to give you an idea of what to expect ... friendly people sharing information about making the most of their hearing and living better with the best technology and strategies.

Our meetings are usually very accessible including an audio loop (for people with telecoils in their hearing aids or CIs), and live captions of everything said displayed on a screen.

Area Served

The Wake Chapter serves the Raleigh area. Members come from Raleigh, Apex, Cary, Knightdale, Wake Forest, Garner and other outlying areas of Wake County.

The HLA Wake Chapter occasionally publishes a brief newsletter; you can see the lastest and past newsletters by clicking on the links below.

An audioloop is provided at all meetings so people with telecoil equipped hearing aids or cochlear implants can hear the audio as well as possible. A Computer Aided Notetaker (CAN) types and displays the text of all speech at most meetings so even people who can't hear at all can follow the meeting.

Funding and Treasurer

HLAA Wake Chapter is supported completely by volunteers. We have no local dues and are funded by donations. We recommend that you join the HLAA national organization at www.hearingloss.org, because without the HLAA national organization, we wouldn't exist. But everyone is welcome to participate in our local chapter.

HLAA Wake Chapter is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our EIN is 27-5116656. You can also View our Approval letter from the IRS. Depending on your tax situation, your donations to our Chapter may be tax deductible.

Donations can be brought to meetings or sent to our Treasurer:
