Trial For Share and Care

This page is a trial for a project that NCSHHH can run that simplifies how we get unused equipment to people who need it.

Many of us have a box (or even a closet) full of serviceable equipment related to hearing loss that we are no longer using. It's such a shame to let that sit there when we could donate that through this NCSHHH program to people who could use it.

This page provides a listing equipment that is being offered by SHHH members (or anyone really) to NCSHHH for redistribute to someone who needs it. See:

Submitting Items

If you have equipment related to hearing loss that you are willing to donate to this program, please send an email to Steve Barber which provides a description of the item. See the examples in the table, below, to see what kind of details are needed. Please keep the item until a suitable recipient has been found. NCSHHH will then notify you so arrangements can be made to get the item to the recipient.

NCSHHH is a 501 C3 non-profit organization, so you may be able to claim a fair market value as a tax deduction, but more important if we can find a recipient, you'll have the satisfaction of helping someone else who can use your unused equipment.

The NCSHHH Share and Care Coordinator will attempt to match available equipment to recipients with preference given to the following (in no particular order) including their needs and their ability to otherwise acquire the needed equipment:

  • North Carolina SHHH Chapters
  • SHHH members
  • North Carolina non-profits supporting people
  • North Carolina state agencies
  • individuals in North Carolina
Finding Recipients

Please notify the Share and Care Coordinator at nobody@ncshhh.org if you:

  • know of a chapter, organization or individual that might be able to use listed equipment.
  • are a chapter, organization or individual who might qualify as a recipient.

Amplifier for Loop
Donor: Steve Barber

This is an old, but serviceable 35 watt Radio Shack amplifer suitable for use as a room loop system. It would be ideal for an SHHH Chapter that doesn't have a loop system, but does have someone capable of making the loop (instructions provided) to attach to the speaker outputs. The amplifier will also require one or two microphones with standard phone jacks.

Telecaption 4000 Closed Caption Decoder
Donor: Steve Barber

This is "set top box" that will display captions on an old (pre 1993) standard TV. This is not needed for newer TVs and will not work with high definition TVs.

TriFold Presentation Board
Donor: Wake Chapter

This is a green felt tri-fold presentation board suitable for a chapter to use to display information about SHHH and their chapter at meetings or at health fairs etc. It's not the prettiest, but it's serviceable.
